Article Submission - How Fast Are You?
by: Steve Gillman

Is it really important how fast you do the article submission process? It may not be if you are just going to submit an article or two and leave it at that. However, if you plan to use articles as a regular part of your marketing plan for your website, it becomes very important.

When I wrote an article to promote one of my web sites for the first time, it took me hours. The article submission process took another hour - for just one article directory! Most articles now take me less than an hour to write. Almost every morning I submit an article to a dozen directories, and this takes me just fifteen minutes.

Does speed matter? Consider that in the last twelve months I've written and submitted 300 articles to directories (don't worry - you don't need to write this much to effectively promote your sites). Now suppose I took twelve minutes for each directory submission, instead of the 75 seconds I average now. That's 525 hours extra in the last year, or 17 of my 30-hour work weeks!

Efficient Article Submission

It's not about rushing or typing fast. Just develop a simple process or system for anything that you repeatedly do. A simple process makes article submission more relaxing, not less so.

Write your articles in a Windows Notepad file or any simple word processing program. Have a systematic way to format everything - one that works for you - and stick with it. In my files, I have the author's resource boxes prepared and copied many times, waiting for the addition of the articles. Of course they can be modified for an article, but this is quicker than writing a new one each time. I also keep a separate file of articles for each website.

When I write an article, I copy and paste it into the file again, adding bold tags or italics or heading tags as necessary to the first version. This way I have a version ready for the directories that accept HTML and those that don't. Each article also has a two sentence description and a list of keywords, ready to copy and paste into the submission forms.

I keep a numbered list of directories I submit to - with the URL of the submission page ready to be copied and pasted into the browser to speed things along. I write the article titles on a list. As I submit them I jot down the number of the article directory. Sometimes directories have technical problems for a day or a month. With my simple tracking list, I can go back later to submit the article to those that were missed.

You have to open and close (expand and minimize) files repeatedly as you fill in the submission forms. To save time on forms that require my name, I copy the title and name together, paste it into the "title" box on the form, then cut the name and paste it into the appropriate box. This will make more sense once you try it - it means opening and close the file one less time.

I paste the article description and the keywords into the form, if that article directory requires these, then I copy the article body along the resource box. After pasting the article into the form, I cut out the resource box and paste it into the appropriate box. Again, this is to open and close the file one less time. Use any little tricks that work for you to speed things up.

You may have an auto-fill feature on your browser, or you can get one. Use it. When forms asking for name, email, or anything else are highlighted yellow, you can usually fill them in with these tools. At directories requiring my name and email address, I just click my auto-fill button, and those fields are filled in for me. I use this tool dozens of times daily, saving me a lot of typing.

You should also get a keyboard with "cut," "copy" and "paste" buttons. These are much faster than navigating up to "edit," finding "copy," then opening it again to use the "paste" function. This little feature has saved me twenty hours of work in the last year alone - well worth the small price.

I speed up the process in may other ways too, but there is no reason you have to do it the way I do. The important point is to spend more time writing good articles than submitting them. That is why it's important to develop some system for efficient article submission.

Powerful Article Writing Strategies for Exploding Traffic and Link Popularity.
by: Kanaga Siva

One of the most discussed topics today is Article Writing. Many Webmasters are jumping into the bandwagon and are trying to revive and reinvent their old writing talents to good measure.

It is a known fact that there are several benefits in article writing and submitting articles to article directories but the main objective of most webmasters is to obtain one way links, thereby increasing Link Popularity and to generate Targeted Traffic.

Success is much easier to achieve when tried and tested strategies are adopted.

Given below are such strategies, if adopted will have a tremendous impact in Boosting your link popularity and Exploding Traffic to your website.

1. TOPIC.

In article writing the most important thing is to choose the right Topic. Though you might be very knowledgeable in sports it makes no sense writing an article on sports if the theme of your website is Home Based Business. Choose a topic related to the theme of your website. If you find it difficult to choose a topic, then visit some of the Forums and see what popular topics are being discussed and select one related to your Home Based Business theme.

2. TITLE

Have a Powerful Killer or Catchy Title that will immediately grab the attention of the Audience. Success or Failure of your article is to a great extent dependent on your title. It is worth spending quite some time over this very important aspect.

3. INTRODUCTION.

The Introduction has to be very Compelling. So write an Introduction that is Concise Powerful and Absorbing. It should be such that the reader would want to continue reading the article right up to your Resource Box.

4. CONTENT.

Good Content is what the reader is interested in. Keep in mind the popular saying "Content is King". Your article should be of high quality, Thought provoking, Informative, Precise and Accurate. Articles written sincerely from the heart are greatly appreciated and accepted by the audience because they realize that you are trying to be helpful and before long a rapport is established between you and the audience.

5. KEYWORDS.

Key Words play a very significant role in article writing. The awareness and success of your articles is greatly dependent on your key words and where you place them. The keywords should be judiciously placed in the Title of your article, in the Introduction paragraph, in the Concluding paragraph and in the main Body of the article. It should not interrupt the flow of the article, be excessive and be seen as keyword stuffing.

6. RESOURCE BOX.

One of the main purposes of article writing is to obtain a one way link and generate traffic to your site. For this the Resource Box is of utmost importance. Place a resource box at the end of the article with a very brief description of yourself or your product along with your name and URL. Double check your URL since this is your life line for both your link and traffic.

7. ARTICLE SUBMISSION.

Having written a good article you now have to submit your article to various article directories and submission sites. All of them have their own submission rules. It is important that you study them before submitting your article. Failure to do so will mean that your article may not get published and all your efforts will be in vain.

That's it. Follow this strategy in your article writing and you are assured of a surge of traffic and increased link popularity. In addition you will soon be accepted as an authority and expert in your field. Isn't it wonderful!

Build A Better Body
by: Deanna Mascle

As both a writer and writing instructor I often taught the importance of introductions and conclusions; however, it does not do to overlook the body of your article or essay. After all, no matter how intriguing your introduction or how compelling your conclusion is, if the body of your essay falls flat then you will have failed as a writer.

Creating a powerful and effective body for your essay or article is not challenging if you plan carefully, write meaningfully, and revise repeatedly. In fact, if you plan carefully and write meaningfully then you may not have to revise very much, but you should still allow time just in case.

Planning carefully means spending time to brainstorm and mull over the ideas and elements you would like to cover in the body of your essay or article. What topic do you plan to write about? Ask yourself an important question related to that topic and your answer to that question will often become the basis for your thesis statement -- or quite simply the point you are trying to make with this essay or article.

Now that you have identified your main point, or thesis, you can begin to build on this foundation. You must now make a list of three, four or five (although I prefer to use three or five for some odd reason) points you can make to expand or support this main point or thesis.

For example, perhaps you plan to write an essay about why writing is a rewarding career path. So you could make your thesis: Writing is a rewarding career path because it offers professional rewards, financial rewards, and personal rewards.

Now your challenge is to build the body of your essay or article with these topics in mind. If you are writing a short piece then you can simply write one or two paragraphs on each of these three points: professional, financial, and personal rewards. If you are writing a longer piece then you will write a section focused on those three points. In order to develop each section you could then brainstorm three points to make about each of these topics.

For example, writing can help you professionally by serving as a profession in itself, by furthering most other professional fields, and by furthering your education, could all be topics you could explore within the "professional" writing section.

Spending time before you write to brainstorm, plan and craft a solid thesis can help you with your writing and a clear thesis can also help your reader understand what you are writing.

Building a better body for your essay and article does not have to be difficult or challenging, but spending time to plan and execute the body of your piece can make a substantial difference in the outcome of your writing.

Daily Writing Tip:
--------------------

I Hate Writing Articles - Isn't There An Easier Way?!
by: Carina Ljungqvist

The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you'll find that the subject of Article-writing is certainly no exception.

If you find yourself confused by what you've read to this point, don't despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time you finish.

Owning, running and maintaining an internet based business or a site needs articles. Plain and simple, every one who has a site knows this. Even those who don’t have sites but are frequent internet users knows this as well. Articles quench the thirst for information and knowledge of the people. Plus, the articles provide many other benefits for the site.

The benefits that articles provide are putting a site high in the ranking in search results of keywords and keyword phrases that pertains or are relevant to his or her site. They also provide attraction to website visitors when they are appreciated and is linked to your site from another site or newsletter. Articles provide for the increase of the confidence and trust levels of customers to your site and company.

Many articles are also beneficial to both company and its traffic. When the readers like the articles, they would tell more of their friends, family and peers and recommend your site to them, providing for a larger volume of traffic. You get bigger sales if your traffic trusts and believes in you. Your product or services would be much easier to sell when they know you know what you are doing and talking about.

So ok, we have established that articles are very important to a site and to business. Articles are crucial and to keep ahead in the game, a site must have an article, it is imperative. There is one dilemma though, not many people like writing articles.

Many website owners would rather spend their time on something else, and unless you’re a big time company, you don’t have the necessary resources to use on a pool of article writers. Plagiarism or copying of other articles is frowned upon and could easily get you into trouble, worst case scenario; a hefty fine and jail time.

So what are the other options?

Well, for starters if you hate writing articles and you can’t afford to hire people to write for you then don’t. Get free articles. The first place to look at for free articles is the public domain. Here you won’t have problems with copyright infringement and the following penalties and fines if you get caught for plagiarism.

Public domain articles are articles freely given to the public for public use. You can do whatever you want with it. You can place it on your site, name it as yours, put it in a newsletter it’s your decision. Always remember though that you will have to choose articles that are very relevant to your site.

The downside to public domain articles is that since it is free for everybody, many of your competitors may have access to them as well. Since every site needs to be original and unique even though you have the same niche, this could be a predicament. You may also have to edit them a bit to place more keywords and keyword phrases to make them better.

Another way to get free articles is to allow other sites which have the same subject or topic as yours to submit articles to your site. This would be only to augment your existing content or else all your articles would be leading to other sites since these articles would have resource boxes with them that could link or direct the readers to their site. That’s why it is important to have your own articles; you cold use them to link your site to other sites as well.

But, to truly feel the impact of what a good article to you, go for original ones. There are many article writers who do part time and freelance article writing jobs that charges only minimal fees. You can get good articles that have all the keywords and keyword phrases you need and people are looking for.

The investment you made for these articles would be worthwhile because you could use them for all the benefits you could offer. You hold copyrights to them and you will be able to use them anyway you want. As your articles help you in building your business and your site, you will have more articles to write and maybe then you won’t be having second thoughts about articles.

So now you know a little bit about Article-writing. Even if you don't know everything, you've done something worthwhile: you've expanded your knowledge.

This writing tip Sent for posting on Freelance Steps from the talented freelance writer Steve Amoia.

Selected Quotes from Ernest Hemingway on Writing, edited by Larry W. Phillips.
by Steve Amoia

While few of us will ever reach the brilliance of Mr. Hemingway, some of his advice might provide an intriguing perspective from one of most gifted writers in the English language. I have selected a few of his most salient observations about the craft of writing. The book itself, which was expertly edited and organized by Mr. Larry W. Phillips, is available from Amazon.com.

One interesting fact about Mr. Hemingway might surprise us. He never went to college. So the next time a client/employer says, "English or another pertinent degree required for this position," you may desire to gently remind them that with those criteria, they could not hire Ernest Hemingway. :-)

"Writing is something that you can never do as well as it can be done. It is a perpetual challenge and it is more difficult than anything else that I have ever done."

"There's no rule on how it is to write. Sometimes it comes easily and perfectly. Sometimes it is like drilling rock and then blasting it out with charges."

"Ordinarily I never read anything before I write in the morning to try and bite on the old nail with no help, no influence and no one giving you a wonderful example or sitting looking over your shoulder."

"Whatever success that I have had has been through writing what I know about."

"You see I'm trying in all my stories to get the feeling of the actual life across, not just to depict life, or criticize it, but to actually make it alive."

"Charlie's (Scribner's) ridiculing of my daily word count was because he did not understand me or writing well nor could know how happy one felt to have put down properly 422 words as you wanted them to be. And days of 1200 or 2700 were something that made you happier than you could believe. Since I found that 400 to 600 well done was a pace I could hold much better was always happy with that number. But if I only had 320 I felt good."

"I think you should learn about writing from everybody who has ever written that has anything to teach you."

"I hold very simply, that a critic has a right to write anything he wishes about your work no matter how wrong he may be. I also hold that a critic has no right to write about your private life while you are alive."

Tips On How To Write A Simple Article
by: Morgan Hamilton

How to write a simple article? Most likely there are as many different opinions about this as there are authors, but it is enough to say that with the everlasting popularity of publications on the internet, it is safe to begin with learning how to write an online article.

How to write a simple article

As there are hundreds of strict rules and strategies for writing an article full of keywords, I’d like to save you some time and effort and a possible headache too, and to teach you how to write a simple piece for online publication, an article which is included in an online database. For instance, this might be a database that accepts as well as offers its readers free articles. Furthermore, I’d like to concentrate mainly on the style or type of publication which is easiest to reach and most interesting and enjoyable to read.

It is important to know that the great majority of websites have a general topic or concern. Suppose you are going to write an article for a firm which is specialized in designing kitchen cabinets. The above-mentioned firm required ten publications to start. (Keep in mind that this is only a hypothetical situation; most sites have a database of more than 300 articles). I suppose many of us have previous experience in writing assignments in their college classes, for example a paper which is supposed to be 10 pages long on anything related to California history. It is almost the same as far as writing online articles in concerned; the web master will require ten articles about kitchen cabinets. And then you have to leave your imagination and invention work.

Go to your kitchen and carefully examine the cupboards. How many synonyms of cabinet can you think of? How these cupboards are made, what are they made of and how many parts do they have? Do you know all the kinds of materials that are used in building a cupboard? When was the oldest cabinet you’ve seen built? ( few days ago I came across one which was used in a pharmacy and was made of steel and glass, it was from the early 1920’s ). Thus, if you are a beginner at writing articles about cabinets, you could think about the types, styles, designs and materials. Here are some pieces of advice you can follow and write a couple of paragraphs choosing your own approach from one of the mentioned below.

* Define all the terms and specialized words used in cabinetry. The best way to help a potential buyer, a user or even apprentice carpenter is to include a glossary in your article.

* Make an easily readable bulleted list covering all the facts and details related to the topic

* Do a Survey – write an article about the history of the topic you’ve chosen, whether it would be a person, a place, an event or a concept

* Be sensitive about the format – using different style and font variations will help the reader distinguish the different parts of the article

Further, knowing how to write a piece of publication includes setting the right purposes: show the readers how to select, build, buy, clean, install, etc. the item you write about.

Some of the popular formats that you might want to use are listed below:

The Q and A – put some questions and then finds the best answers

The Narrative – people love stories, especially well-written ones

Try Quotes and Trivia – if you find it appropriate you can put some quotes in your article because quotes are as exciting as tales and discussions of trials and tribulations and success—with the item you are describing.

This should be a good base on which you build your article. It is a good idea to start with a website of your own, that way you would see how good is your work. Else, you could write publications for a friend of yours. What really matters in writing simple articles is to be experienced, so just get down to practicing. While working, try to enjoy it.

How to Write Better Editorial Articles
by: Brian Konradt

Writing an editorial article may be one of the most satisfying forms of writing, especially for journalists trained to be objective at all costs. An editorial article can be about anything and from any standpoint. As long as you have an opinion and can support it with facts, you have the makings of an interesting piece.

We all have opinions, right? Yet not all of us are editorial writers and not all editorials are worth reading. What exactly makes an editorial article good -- and how do you write one?

KNOW YOUR THESIS

Too many people begin writing their topic with only a vague sense of opinion, never honing, or refining, that opinion into something sharp and distinctive. Be sure to have a solid grasp of what you’re arguing and why you’re arguing. Think about your topic and why you’ve chosen it first. What elements of the argument call to you? What angers or pleases you about this issue? Keep these things in mind as you begin to write.

MINE THE DATA

An editorial is only as good as its facts. Sure, you may think the death penalty is wrong and worthy of outlaw, but without backing it up with data, you have nothing but a half-formed opinion. Get the backstory, understand your argument inside-out. Research every aspect of your topic and cite as many facts as possible; generalities are the death of interesting editorials.

CONSIDER THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED

Don’t pigeonhole yourself into writing from majority’s opinion just because you can make easy arguments. Think long and hard about your position on the chosen issue and write from the standpoint that makes the most sense to you. Never, ever, ever compromise your beliefs for the sake of a byline.

AVOID HYPERBOLE

Sure, exaggerating slightly is expected during a heated face-to-face, but hyperbole has no place in a well-written editorial. You can rarely back up statements such as “always” and “never” with factual data, so stay away from them unless the hyperbole has a definite, and obvious, literary purpose. Typically, including these words will make your editorial prone to justifiable, and often fatal, criticism.

UNDERSTAND THE OPPOSITION

The only way to create a fully formed editorial with tons of depth and poignancy is to understand what the other side is arguing. Research opposing viewpoints with the same voracious energy as the ones with which you line up. Take the time to understand what the other side is arguing and why; after all, you can only combat a particular argument if you know exactly what that argument is.

Article Writing: 10 Reasons Why The Discipline Is Necessary For Any Internet Marketer
by: Mary Murtha
The hardest part about writing, is getting one’s self to actually start writing. Most writers usually hate to write but love it when they have finished writing. To be able to escape this process, what some writers do is procrastinate.
Having this attitude really does not get anything done. One of the basic reason why some think this way is because they are afraid to fail. They also put tremendous pressure upon themselves, thinking that whatever writing that they should do and produce must be brilliant.
The fact of the matter is that no writer, or person for that matter, is perfect. Everyone has flaws and having imperfections is the perfect reason why more writing should be done.
Discipline is important. Without this, nothing will get done or will get written. Having discipline causes any writer, especially those who write articles for the internet, to think clearly and go beyond his or her mundane concerns. When one has discipline, the focus is on the output and not on the ego.
Discipline serves as a guide
Having discipline enables anyone to think in a lucid manner. It also helps in coming up of ways to present the details and facts of an article. A disciplined mind gets things done easily.
Using a guide in numbering the characters that should be present on each line of a given article is an easy and controlled way to limit as well as define what it is to write about and how.
Observe how doing this and setting a limit to one’s self actually helps the writer compose the article thereby avoiding awkward breaks in each sentence. When this is done, readability of the article is achieved as well as the topic at hand becomes a whole lot clearer.
Discipline helps achieve focus
There are a million things to write about as well as there are a million things to say. Having discipline makes it a lot easier to select a particular idea or subject. A general issue could still be broken down in sub topics and start from there.
The words to be used for such an article must also be appropriate to the kind of reader targeted. Once this is decided upon, selecting the appropriate mood, be it serious, funny, etc. would be a lot easier.
Having discipline makes it easier to break a topic down
If it is simply too overwhelming to write an article in one get up and go fashion, the only solution is – don’t write it.
Discipline yourself to think of the article in easy and convenient small chunks. Take each idea as one paragraph. Then think of another idea in terms of another paragraph. Then, make a simple outline of the article as well as the issues and topics that will cover it.
Discipline yourself to just let go
Writing is a process. It is best that writing be not forced. Such an attitude produces an article that is stiff, unreadable and – most likely – unlikable.
Discipline yourself to just write
A lot of things could crop up inside one’s head about the article one is intending to write.
It is easy to be distracted about other topics that could be included in the article, or other issues, as well as other subtopics.
It is best that one should just stick to the current topic at hand. Topics or issues that are off the main points must be avoided.
Remember that the objective is to write, complete and finish the article. Entertaining any and all forms of distractions will not be helpful.
Be disciplined to not edit --- at least not yet
In any first drafts, the key to writing completely is to let the ideas just flow. Editing must and will have to come at a later part. Editing is not part of the writing process, at least in this stage where thoughts really just have to flow, so let it.
Be disciplined to re-read and review the article
After the writing is complete, this is the perfect and best time to start reading it as well as reviewing it. First time drafts must be proofread. This is also the best time to start editing.
Check and find out which parts seem to lag. Is there any weak idea that needs backing up? Are there no spelling errors in the article? Are there any errors in grammar? Such mistakes must be paid attention to as it could distract the readers from the idea and point of the article.
Discipline yourself to relax
After writing, let the article stand or sit on its own. Get up and eat, sleep, read, watch television or simply get out.
Make sure that you spend at least a day letting the article breath.
Discipline yourself to re-write
Getting back to the article after a considerable amount of time away from it enables anyone to look at it with fresh eyes.
Check the title. Review if the sentences are complete thoughts. Delete or re-write what needs to be edted or re-written.
Well-written articles should be satisfying and not leave readers wanting to have more.
Discipline yourself to make the article known
After all is said, written and done, it is now time to send the article out. Readers should be appropriately advised where the article came from, who wrote it or if there is any link related to the article and its source.
In summary, discipline helps anyone, especially in writing, start and finish a task with a process that is methodical and one that actually works. All one needs is discipline to carry it through.

The Stink-Eye Press Wants You!

A brand new online literary magazine is seeking submissions for its first issue. Short stories, poetry, and essays are all being sought.

I have no money myself, so I can't pay you, but if you have a craving deep within yourself to tell the world, "I had a story/poem/essay/picture of my butt published by The Stink-Eye Press," then send something in. I'm especially interested in experimental pieces that don't quite fit the bounds of how fiction, poetry, etc. are typically defined. If Italo Calvino's "Six Memos for the Next Millenium" said anything to you, then you may have something we can really work with. But overall, if it's well-done, I'd love to read it.

For a little extra info, read here: http://www.stinkeyepress.org/?page_id=2. I'm still tinkering around with the design!
