Freelance Marketing Writer( Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) - New York, NY) From idealist
NRDC -- the Natural Resources Defense Council -- has an immediate opening for a freelance Direct Mail/Email Fundraising and Activism Writer. NRDC is the country’s most effective environmental action group with more than 1.2 million Members and online activists. Our staff of 300 attorneys, scientists, and policy analysts works to protect the environment through courtroom action, legislative campaigns, and grassroots online activism. NRDC is headquartered in New York City, with offices in San Francisco, Washington D.C. and Santa Monica. This writer will be a valued partner in our work to protect the planet and work closely with our creative strategist/senior writer who has engineered the phenomenal growth of NRDC’s activist base over the past two decades.
The writer will also be a close collaborator with the NRDC Membership team, program staff and our dynamic outside direct marketing agency to produce direct mail and email fundraising appeals and activist alerts about wilderness, wildlife, energy and other issues. Responsibilities include writing and editing copy that is clear, compelling and motivating. The writer is expected to, over a period of time, develop a wide-ranging knowledge of NRDC programs and initiatives, and play a key role in helping achieve our goal of growing NRDC’s online activist base to 2 million citizens. In order to do this the writer will need to set aside enough time to meet scheduled deadlines and have the flexibility to meet unexpected ones that may occasionally occur.
Qualifications: Applicants should have a minimum of two years experience writing direct mail/email or marketing copy for a non-profit. Preference will be given to those who have worked on environmental issues and who have written fundraising copy. He or she must have the ability to work directly with NRDC attorneys and scientists and translate their work into marketing copy. Writer must also have a deep concern for the natural world, as well as a commitment to use a large Membership and online citizen action network to help protect the environment. He or she must be excited about the chance to be an integral part of NRDC. Applicant must be able to take editorial direction, turn copy around quickly, and meet strict copy deadlines. It is expected that the work will take 6 to 10 hours a week initially. We anticipate this amount of time to grow as the writer takes on more assignments and could lead to a part or full-time staff position in NRDC’s Membership department.

A fortune 500 company in NYC is looking to bring on a freelance Designer to their global headquarters. In order to qualify you must have a background in package design, pre-press, and art direction. Someone with experience with formal meetings, papertrail, diplomacy, etc is a must.
This position is much more of a designer with some management and hands-on design is required. You will need to highlight that you have had a good amount of production / pre-press experience.
They want someone who can be a leader. Someone who has had experience in presenting to higher levels (marketing managers, etc) as well as experience in directing and supervising vendors or working in a team environment. REQUIREMENTS
-A Team Player willing to work on-site.
-4-year degree in Art/Graphic Design or related field.
-Minimum of 5 years in a Graphic Design field.
-Expert in HTML, Dreamweaver MX, Quark Xpress, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Flash preferred.
-Strong conceptual skills in layout and design.
-Pre-press preparation skills and attention to details a must!
-Excellent knowledge and experience with the graphics and printing industry from design to finished product.
-The ability to maintain a high level of organization and excellent follow through.
-Superior communication and customer service skills.
