We're looking for an organizational whiz, who is passionate about editing. Candidates should demonstrate attention to detail, have excellent interpersonal skills, and a good sense of humor. Job Description: Work with the executive editor to determine content for the bimonthly issues. Oversee content production for magazine, as well as for e-Newsletters and blogs. Work closely with freelance writers. Edit and proof copy written by contributing writers for style, content and organization. Research, conduct interviews, and write news and feature articles for magazine. Compose Web features. Supervise the scheduling and work of freelance writers. Editor must be able to travel, and attends 2-3 academic conferences per year.
Job Requirements: Bachelor's degree in journalism, English or creative writing required. Graduate degree and experience teaching within higher education a plus. 2-4 years of magazine (as opposed to book or newspaper) editing experience required. Must know Chicago Style, and have superior copyediting skills. Must be extremely detail oriented and organized. Candidates should also have above-average Microsoft Word and Excel skills. Mac literacy a plus.
Salary: $25,000-$35,000 per year plus generous fringe benefits and vacation (pro- rata). NOTE: This is a three-quarter time (30 hour per week) appointment. Editor works from home, and commutes to Ann Arbor 1-2 times per week.
